Getting the Right Rehab Program Has Never Been This Easy
They say that quitting the bad habit is as difficult as finding the most appropriate rehab facility and program for you. With this in mind, we thought of gathering some of the key elements of getting into the best rehab for you or your loved one. Read on and get the dose that you need.
It all starts with acceptance
The recognition of an alcohol abuse disorder or substance abuse problem is a huge step for a person struggling with either issue.
Once this realization is made, the next steps can often seem challenging, confusing, and discouraging. One of these steps is beginning the process of finding a rehab program that is most likely to help the individual achieve and maintain recovery.
Knowing what to look for in the best alcohol rehab programs can help remove some of this confusion, making it easier to begin the process and find the program that offers the right methods, treatments, and tools to motivate. It also assists in managing the continued recovery for the person who is ready to enter rehab.
You know that a rehab program is a likely path that you should take on the road to full and efficient recovery. But the question is, what kind of program or facility best suits you?
“Whether I or anyone else accepted the concept of alcoholism as a disease didn’t matter; what mattered was that when treated as a disease, those who suffered from it were most likely to recover.” ― Craig Ferguson,

Caters to your specific needs
Is your addiction life-threatening or severely debilitating? Is it a risk to the safety of other people around you? If your answers to both are no, you probably can benefit from individual treatment with a therapist who specializes in addiction treatment interventions, one who has had experience with mental health.
If you answer yes to both, you may need to check yourself into a facility. Do so especially if you’ve already tried the outpatient option and have found it ineffective. Otherwise, you can do a partial hospitalization.
Also, not all persons with addiction problems are the same. Some have underlying health issues or disorders that would require a different approach than the usual ones. Treatment should not be a one-size-fits-all solution as not every case is the same. Besides, everyone has their own preferences.
For example, you may find a 28-day program not as helpful as it’s not enough time to undo a long period of struggle with a particular type of addiction. Or you may find group sessions alienating and prefer a one-on-one approach. You may also have a reaction to medications used to treat drug addiction.
Also, could be that you wish not to be heavily medicated during your rehabilitation. Or perhaps there’s an underlying or co-morbid mental health issue that also needs to be addressed to effectively put a stop to the compulsive loop. Look for an option that best suits your needs.
Has a good track record
Check the feedback of particular facilities, therapists, or programs. How many have found them helpful? Which one appears to have the higher success rate? Have there been complications with the kind of treatment they administer to their patients? Has the rehabilitation been lasting? There should be data that you can check and compare.
Provides aftercare services
It’s one thing to beat the habit and another to keep it at arm’s length. What happens after rehab is as important as what occurs during treatment. Without proper aftercare, months or years of effort could be undone within weeks. This could result in another round of self-destruction, wasted resources, and a lot of frustration from the relapse.
Check whether the facility, program, or mental health professional offers aftercare services.
Licensed and Accredited
Just in 2013, author Anne Fletcher revealed that in many states in America, addiction counselors don’t need to be college graduates to practice in such a capacity. Also, some of them lack training.
Knowing this, you should ensure that the therapist or rehab center you engage is duly licensed and accredited for addiction treatment. The counselor must have gone through proper training and have a solid experience in addiction interventions and mental health.
“At the bottom of every person’s dependency, there is always pain. Discovering the pain and healing it is an essential step in ending dependency.” ― Chris Prentiss
